Delphi's fame and prestige was known throughout the Mediterranean and men came from all corners of the then known world to seek its priestess's wise prophecy. Also, according to legend, it was at Delphi where two eagles sent by Zeus met to find the centre of the earth thus the basis of the Greeks conviction that Delphi was "omphalos" or the navel.

Meteora is a monastery complex perched on top of a rocky outcrop and hence its Greek name (Meteora) that means suspended in the air. The first traces of monastic life at Meteora dates from the eleventh century, mainly on the flat summits and at lower points. Meteora is richly decorated with paintings and icons, and the second largest monastic complex in Greece after Mt. Athos. Meteora has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, and at its base, in the shadow of loomings crags is the town of Kalambaka, one of the most beautiful places in Greece.
